Reduced Design Cost: The standardized design of Rota-Clamps® saves development, detailing and checking costs by allowing the designers to confidently specify a highly-refined, available clamping actuator for their needs. Rota-Clamp® Models: Rota-Clamps are available in pneumatic or hydraulic, internal or external powered models, miniature models and non-powered models.

They can also come with a variety of non-standard strokes and rotations. Specials are quoted on request. Stilson Rota-Clamps are proven in applications in many industries. Such applications include: assembly line pallets, machine tool fixtures, test stands and welding fixtures. Wherever a non-interfering clamping force is needed, designers can specify Stilson Rota-Clamps.

Harmonic Generated Cam Slot: Stilson Rota-Clamps are hydraulic or pneumatic powered actuators. They offer impact-free, smooth transition from linear to 90° of rotary motion for clamping, holding, indexing, positioning, fixturing and many other applications. A unique double-cam slot design makes the difference. Rota-Clamps work better because they utilize a harmonically-generated slot. Conventional machine slots have a abrupt transition point which can cause severe impact loading of the pin and roller shaft.

Double Roller and Cam Slot: Rubbing or sliding friction is eliminated with our heavy double roller-bushing. At first, only one of the rollers will contact the cam slot. If roller wear occurs, then the second roller comes into use, which greatly extends the life of the Rota-Clamp.

Space Savings: In the impact Rota-Clamp design, the cam slot is in the bushing. This cuts in half the space required to protect the cam slot from exposure to dirt and chips.

Stilson Pneumatic Powered Rota-Clamps®: Self-contained clamp assemblies are available in several sizes. The internal locations of the harmonic-generated cam slot provides optimum protection from dirt, chips or welding flash. Rota-Clamps are designed to operate at a maximum velocity of 120in./minute, through the use of a fixed orifice control. For slower velocities, use variable flow control valves. The maximum operating pressure is 250 psi air. When ordering, always specify “R” or “L”, which designates right-handed or left-handed helix. (Example: RCP-58151-“R”)

Stilson Hydraulic Powered Rota-Clamps®: Self-contained clamp assemblies are available in several sizes. They offer impact-free transition from linear to rotary motion, with positive clamping. Rota-Clamps are designed to operate at a maximum velocity or 120 in./minute through the use of fixed orifice control. For slower velocities, use variable flow control valves. The maximum recommended operating pressure is 1500 psi oil. When ordering, always specify”R” or “L”, which designates right-handed or left-handed helix. (Example: RCP-48151-“R”)

Stilson External Powered Rota-Clamps®: (pneumatic or hydraulic) The unique roller bearing cam follower assembly provides long, trouble-free operation. The cam track is hardened for durable, low maintenance service. Shafts are chrome-plated, high alloy steel. External powered Rota-Clamps are designed to operate at a maximum velocity of 120 in./minute. For slower velocities, use variable flow control valves. When ordering, always specify”R” or “L”, which designates right-handed or left-handed helix. (Example: RCP-58150-“R”)

Stilson Miniature Rota-Clamps®: Miniature models solve the problem of providing light clamping force in limited space. Mini Rota-Clamps have a minimal “to go” condition to prevent damage to the cam follower at the end of each stroke. Because the cam follower is in the shaft, the unit can travel straight and rotate, or rotate and then travel straight. The mounting nut can be located on any part of the housing. For severe applications, provide a means of locking the nut to prevent its loosening. The Rota-Clamp housing is threaded, to allow freedom of adjustment for location in the fixture. And the tapped holes in both ends of the shaft provides an ideal means for attaching clamp fingers or a power source. When ordering, always specify”R” or “L”, which designates right-handed or left-handed helix. (Example: RCM-12510-“R”) For light duty clamping, when space savings, speed, dependability and low cost are vital, specify models listed in our catalog.

Stilson Non-Powered Rota-Clamps®: These Rota-Clamps are used with external power sources and include an integral means of attaching the power source. The clamp shaft is easily altered to suit any attachment required. The units are designed to operate at a maximum velocity of 240 in./minute, with zero mass at the clamping end. When ordering, always specify”R” or “L”, which designates right-handed or left-handed helix. (Example: RC-75206-“R”)
